Browse Federal Colonial houses for sale in Washington.
Federal style pulls from Roman and Greek architecture trends from the late 1700s. In the early 1800s, this style was a statement of urban wealth along the port cities of New England. Built with brick facades, elaborate windows flanking the front door, and decorative molding around the entryway and windows. This style of home is all about the elaborate details.
Another common feature is double-hung six-over-six windows typically in rows of five on the second and third stories and two windows on either side of the entrance, creating a symmetrical front facade. Chimneys are usually located on either side of the low-grade, hip roof. Federal style houses are also known as Adam-style houses.
