Real Estate Insights for Home Buyers and Property Addicts

Why Netflix-and-Chill When You Can Netflix-and-Browse?

Picture this: You have settled in for the night with a glass of wine, your feet tucked in a blanket, and Netflix on the screen. You start a new show and the first thing you notice is not the cast, or the storyline. It’s the house. You know you are a sucker for gorgeous looking homes when a haunted mansion excites you as much as a cute little apartment. And while we can’t take you to these filming locations, you can look at these for-sale real estate properties located right in the Bay area that are the closest thing to your favorite Netflix house.

1. Haunting of Bly Manor - an old English mansion

Ok, so ghosts aren’t my thing but that Bly Manor mansion.. wow! The exterior of this Tudor Gothic style property is actually the 500-year old Thornewood Castle in Lakewood, Washington. What could come close to this, you ask? This 1927 multi-generational home with stained glass windows, winding staircases, and a grand entryway. Located in San Leandro, CA, this 9 bed, 6 bath home could be perfect for your mansion dreams.

2. Modern Family - modern to mediterranean

The picture-perfect houses in this 11-season series are perfect depictions of each family and their eccentricities. But if I had to pick my favorite of the three, it would be Cam and Mitchell’s vine-covered mediterranean-style house. Located in Century City, CA the white exteriors of the house along with a cute garden are perfectly comparable to this 6 bed Palo Alto home. The best part? It’s also a 2-storey home just like the one in the show and you might not even want to Bnb it out ;)

3. Emily in Paris - an apartment with views for days

Ever since I’ve seen this show, I’ve been living and dreaming Paris - french pastries, cobbled streets and multistorey apartments. There is something so charming about living in an apartment/condo and this 56th story penthouse will knock your socks off with the view! So, even though your window will not have a backdrop of gardens and maybe the Eiffel Tower, the 25-ft glass walls overlooking the Golden Gate Bridge is going to be the ideal selfie spot.

4. Enola Holmes - country living at its best

Have you recently been craving tea and mysteriously searching for homes in the countryside? You’ve been bitten by the ‘Holmes’ bug. The exterior part of Enola’s home features Benthall Hall, a 16th century English country house in Shropshire, England. A family home for over 500 years, the Benthalls still live here but you can visit it to experience the old countryside life. But if England seems too far, you can check out this stunning French-Provincial estate located in San Mateo that celebrates lavish country living with modern amenities.

5. Crazy Rich Asians - stunning luxury

If I had to pick a favorite just based on grandeur alone, Tyersall Park in Crazy Rich Asians would definitely be the one. Lavish gardens, pools, and charming interiors - there isn’t much to fault in this one. Although the movie was shot in Malaysia and Singapore, I found this gated estate in Atherton that comes very close to the Young family mansion. Crystal chandeliers, gilded accents, custom wall coverings, old English bar, and a Parisian wine cellar complete this 9,105 sq. ft. mansion. You have to see it to believe it.

Every home tells a story and with Netflix, the reverse also becomes true. Every story/show/movie in Netflix features a home that we fall in love with - whether it’s a study nook in a small condo, a backyard in a modern home, or a white picket fence in a country home. So, grab your wine, snuggle in and browse away.
